UNUM: My Instagram Guardian Angel.
As a little branch out from my ‘So you want to…’ blog tip series I want to talk about the best apps for blogging and which ones I have found really helpful. The aim of this series is to go through as many different apps as possible [if you have any suggestions then please let me know].
When I have exhausted the list of apps, I want to do a huge round up/top of the pops [I mean apps] post.
The First Contender: UNUM
First up in the ‘The Battle of the Apps’ is my good ole’ friend UNUM. I was recommended this app just under a month ago and let me tell you – it is the DOGS WATSITS [I couldn’t quite bring myself to say bollocks on my blog….oh…].
I was doing a bit of research in preparation for this post [ark at me] and I came across the description in the app store. IT IS GENIUS! ‘You want sleek. You want powerful. You want beautiful. Your design tool for Instagram. End ugly Instas’. I mean if you don’t think that is enough, read on a little further. ‘READ FIRST: Only download if you are unconventional’. What even is CONVENTIONAL in this crazy blog world now? BUT, you get the drift. I think they are really cool. If you hadn’t already worked out, UNUM is an Instagram planning tool. Basically, my ACTUAL lifesaver.
SO there was silly old me who thought up until very recently that this was JUST a planning app. OH NO, how wrong I was. I am pretty sure that there isn’t anything it can’t do.
SO yes, lets talk about the planning feature for a little bit. I do really like this. It does what it says on the tin. As a stickler for perfection, I like that you can mass take a load of pictures, edit them and then check that they fit in with that ‘bloggers dream’ of having a theme [check out the rhyme on that].
As someone who posts everyday [yes, I know, dedication…or stupid…one of the two] it has just saved me SO much time. What I also like is that the app connects to your Instagram account so that all of your previous photos come up as well.
You can also pre-write captions, add hashtags. This is something I don’t actually do this at the moment as I am more of the ‘chatty caption’ kind of person and just like to talk about something that is either relevant to the picture [I know – sensible] OR something that is relevant to that day [like the day I posted a selfie but actually talked about the MAMMOTH mistake I made when I chose to ‘Spill the tea‘.
TAG CLOUDS: Literally the most helpful thing [if I remembered to use it]. Now, I actually only tend to use 4 or 5 tags within each of my posts. For me, I found that this is something that works for and have never really [in the one month I have had my feed] found the need to add more. However, that being said, I DO like to experiment which ones work best for me.
My Favourite Part
This leads my nicely onto my favourite part of the app. The analytics! I love numbers. I know there is some debate over whether or not you should focus on them but I can’t help it. It is what motivates me. I thrive on a challenge. ANYWHO, my favourite part of the analytics is the ‘Best Hashtags’ part. NO SERIOUSLY, I have never seen this in an app before. UNUM tells you which hashtags have helped your post the most. It only shows you the top 10, but for me that is more than enough. I know, at the click of a button, which hashtags are the best for me to use – HOW HELPFUL IS THAT.
There are lots of other analytics that the app can do, such as top ten posts [surprisingly, or not, selfies are the most popular posts for me closely followed by the photo of tampons?!].
The best thing about all of the things I have just mentioned [and no doubt some other things which I have either forgotten to mention or haven’t even realised the app can do yet] is that it is entirely FREE!!! 10/10 for that.
Now, apart from all of the cool things being free, there are two different paid versions of this delightful doughnut of software. As a free versioner I am unsure exactly of the extent to what the paid versions can do. HOWEVER, I have set myself the challenge that if I can reach 1000 followers by the 31st December [I am currently on 485 – ambitious I know] then I will upgrade!!].
SO, all in all, JUST in case you couldn’t tell, I am a huge fan. Do you use an app to plan your Instagram feed? Let me know if there is another contender for this category.
ALSO, are there any other blogging apps that you think I should be using. PLEASE, no seriously, please do, let me know of other handy apps!
